Round Irritant Personnel

12 gauge close range round irritant personnel rounds should only be used in Magnum shotguns. Use smooth (unchoked) barrels with a 3" (76mm) chamber length, nitro-proofed for Magnum loads to a service pressure of 4 tons per square inch (1200 kg. per sq. cm). This ammunition may also be used in 'sawn-off' shotguns. All cartridge cases are 'see-through' for identification.

CLOSERANGE

This 12 bore shotgun ammunition was developed for use in close-quarter battle situations, particularly those invloving hostages. The airborne irritant can be used to complement other weaponry and offer new tactical options during life-threatening confrontations.

The 12 bore cartridge case contains a mixture of C.S.M. (C.S. Micronised), an inert powder for additional weight and a further non-toxic powder which, under the effects of compression and friction, produces a large cloud of carbon dioxide when leaving the barrel. This mixture is thrown powerfully towards the target, forming a rapidly expanding cloud of irritant. If the weapon is held against any door with timber up to 65mm thick the powder will blast through the door, instantly producing a cloud of airborne irritant. The rupture of the door is achieved by the powder alone, without any missile or mechanical device. Two round fired through the door or through an open door into a room 10ft x 10ft x 8ft (3.048m x 3.048m x 2.438m), will immediately transform the space into a no-go, no-stay area. The concentration of C.S.M. would be sufficient to disable instantly even the most determined and hardened occupant.

Since its conception the R.I.P. Round has been developed into an impressively powerful tool. Breech pressures have increased to Magnum without extra propellant, using newly designed seals to double up as back pressure brakes, and this increase has greatly improved barrier penetration. The R.I.P. Round can penetrate cell-type doors, fire doors clad with thin steel plate on both sides, and bullet-proof 12mm thick Makralon, and will destroy armoured glass from a 1.5m range. From 2-3 metres it will blast out vehicle windows, filling the interior instantly with airborne irritant.

Both R.I.P. Live and R.I.P. Practice Close Range can be used for these requirements, giving the same results. Unlike most ammunition the practice round exactly imitates the live round except for the irritant, enabling realistic exercises to be undertaken and new applications tested without distress.
